Memorizing Your Opponent’s Cards in Rummy Game

Rummy is a skill-based card game where players use their mental prowess to arrange cards and declare them at the earliest. Sounds simple? Well, it is not as easy as it seems to be. Players with years of experience in rummy have difficulty winning with good cards. Of course there are multiple reasons for it! But, one thing that remains common with losing rummy games is neglecting your opponent’s cards.

In Indian rummy game, players are required to analyze cards, plan a strategy and keep a close eye on their opponents all the same time. Missing out on one thing is unfavorable for your game, especially when you play for stakes.

Keeping a close watch on your opponent’s cards is not practicable while playing on a 6 player table. But, there is one alternative that can help you sail through a high-risk situation – memorizing your opponent’s cards. 

Get a hang of the game rules

Indian rummy is played by 2 to 6 players using one or two standard card decks. Each player is dealt with 13 cards at a time who attempts to create melds for a valid declaration.

Create a card deck in your head

When you enter a table, take a few seconds to form a mental image of 52 cards in the deck and then remove the 13 cards in your hand from that deck. As you move forward in the game, eliminate the cards discarded by you as well as your opponent from the mental card deck. This is a useful trick as it helps you with memorizing your opponent’s cards during the game.

Keep a close watch on the discard pile

When you play a cash rummy game, you should know how your opponents are interacting with the discard pile. You should know which cards they have picked and discarded from the open deck and keep reviewing them simultaneously. 

Once you know the cards picked and thrown by your rivals, you can analyze and calculate the cards in their hand correctly. Of course this is not an overnight feat. In order to learn this trick, you must play practice games to get a hang of this trick. As your skills grow, you will develop a habit to watch your opponents and memorize their cards.

Save yourself from the game fatigue

Rummy game can be overwhelming as multiple skills are required to win at this game. This can be overwhelming especially for beginners. Don’t beat yourself up if you cannot memorize at the early stages of the game. Probably you are going through game fatigue that can be addressed in multiple ways.
